We proceed in Aken

Last weekend I had my first little Erasmus reunion in Aken, because several people from my first semester in Sundsvall during winter 2006 meet here. On Thursday Sebastian, Solène and Sandra already arrived and in the evening, after I had finished work, we met in front of a city hall and started with a pub tour. Sebastian described the local Cologne beer (also known as "Kölsch") quite well: "It is rather sweet. Tastes more like juice than beer". Welcome to the essential question of the region I grew up with, buddy. After midnight we ended up in a cocktail bar with cheap cocktails and strange music. I got home after 1am. Pictures of the evening of Thursday by Sandra . The following days were similar. During Friday I still had to work while Sebastian, Solène and Ulrich visited beautiful Maastricht. In the evening Nikola and Ulli joined the team and we after getting into the mood at Ulrich's place, we made a pub tour through Aken once again. Surprisingly there w

Old man

At the weekend I drove to Philipp in Dörenthe for celebrating his birthday. It took a while until I found his house, because as soon as the village starts it ends. Took a while to figure out that most of the houses around than actually in the village. However, after joyful and relaxed driving I reached my goal and met also Solène and Sebastian there. It was like time had never passed. We told so many stories and there are enough left for the next 5 days, when they are coming to Aken. It turned out that my moving out was not so urgent as the landlord told me. First it was a trick counting on kindness, because he told new renters a totally different story than me. However, with this story he scared the 3 guys off who wanted to rent the apartment, since they did not trust him anymore. I for myself think, he is ok, but I better do not believe in any surprising thing he tells me. All that counts is the contract. But I figured out that I have time to cancel my flat until October. Therefore I

Moving out

Yapp, I am late, but to be honest, after international hiking tour there is not much to tell. Days pass and somehow I do not have the feeling like having time, although I spent every night in front of my computer getting bored while watching movies. This empty flat is going to get me. The highlight of the week is still the Spanish course on Wednesday. The people are so funny and I am always in a good mood when coming back. Every time I am ambitious for working more than I have to. But then, suddenly, it is Wednesday again. Luckily, because the evening course is fun, but adly, because somehow time passed too quick for finding mood and time to study. So, if I do not have time, what am I doing the whole week? Mondays I usually talk to people. "How was your weekend", "What are your plans?". It is always interesting. Recently the plans for the upcoming weekends were made. Not fixed, but the first ideas are there. This weekend I will go by car to Osnabrück, celebrating Ph

High Fens

During my morning translation shift I got mail from INCAS about a hiking trip through the High Fens in Belgium. The High Fens are unique marshlands at the border between Germany and Belgium. The hiking trip was announced to be 25 km, guided by ranger through a restricted area and with the requirement for a second pair of shoes, because the first one will be uncomfortable after having crossed marshland and a river. That sounded exact like a trip I would like, so I studied Monday morning at home in order to be on time at the registration board. INCAS is something you can compare with the International Committee in Sundsvall. They organize trips. They have their office in the same building as the Internation Office, and they are sponsored by the international office of the RWTH Aachen ad well as Fachochschule Aachen. But in contrast to International Committee in Sundsvall INCAS offers are for all students. Not limited to Erasmus students, Free Movers or national students, but they are f
