Falles in Valencia

I stayed for a few days at my brother's place in Aachen for checking possible flats. I found some nice. On Wednesday night Maritha arrived by car (@ Chris: around 10pm). We chatted with my brother, drank some beer and went to bed late. After a short night we drove to Maastricht Airport in the Netherlands. Although the flight was announced to be delayed for one hour we started almost in time at half past 9 and landed on time in Valencia. Of course it was much warmer than Germany and Netehrlands and we did not need our jackets for the whole week. We went by Metro into the city and were picked up by Jule, a friend of Maritha. We stayed at her place for two nights. Because the day was still young Maritha and I walked into the city, took a nap in the park and ate in a choclate restaurant. The city is nice and I like the big park that once has been a river. At night we went out into some bars.
On Friday Maritha and I went by foot to the beach and enjoyed the sun. At the beach you can easily recognize the difference between tourists and Spanish inhabtiants. While the toursits lay at the beach and try to become some color the Spanishs walk in jackets around. We behaved like the real toursits and colored our skin red. At night we watched a movie.
Saturday was a city tour with Jule. We watched a 3D movie which was not a real 3D movie. Just a big big screen. We watched a movie about riffs. The pictures were amazing, but the pseudo-documentary talking was a little bit annoying. In the evening we met in the park and drank some beer when Silvia, Zita and Carol came. It was really funny to meet Erasmus friends somewhere else than in Sundsvall. At 9pm Gema picked us up and brought Maritha and me to our new accomodation. We stayed in the flat of her friends and went out into the city for partying with Zita, Sivlia and Carol. We met after a giant and most beautiful firework after 1am. We went to a party tent and danced until 4am. On the way we met Michael, a Dutch from my first semester. Funny coincident. The night was so cool, but we had to walk a lot. And somehow we did not really manage the keys of the flat right. It took us two hours until we found one of Gema's friends for a key. Between 6 or 7 in the morning we were finally in bed.
Sunday Gema brought us first to her parents where we would sleep for our last two nights and brought us then to the beach again. We had some lunch and met Silvia, Zita and Carol for saying good-bye. This time we tried to color our skin from the other side and I think, it worked quite well. After the beach Gema picked us up again and we met Raffa for driving to a lake outside of Valencia. A beautiful place with a lot of mosquitos. We had dinner again at Gema's friends place, but were finally too tired for goind out again, so we went to bed. That sounds like a short day, but in Spain, you go out late after midnight, so when we decided to stay home it was already next day.
Monday was our last day in Valencia. We walked with Gema and her parents to a big firework in the centre of Valencia. It was with less lights, but with a lot of noise and took only 5 minutes. But it was as impressive as the big firework at night. They produeced a lot of noise and smoke. After lunch we set Gema on her train to Madrid and met Jule and some friends again. At 1am we were back at Gema's place. With almost no sleep her parents and we stood up at 4am eating some breakfast. Gema's father brought us kindly to the airport. Our plane took off at half past 6. At 10 I was at my home university to pick up the last page of my diploma certificate and met the flatmates of my future appartment. I will move in end of next week.
Valencia is a crazy city. I would for example never be able to survive as driver in a car in this city. They do not follow any rules. They have red traffic lights twice behind each other, because the Spanish to do not stop at the first light anyway, but at the second. We watched the traffic for 10 minutes and we saw at least 10 almost-accidents with sometimes really dangerous situations. I did also not understand the Spanish eating system with several dinners a day. How can they stay so small if they eat so often?
Falles in Valencia

Being back in Germany is strange. Spain already seems so far away, but it is only one day ago. Two days ago I was lieing at the beach and now I have frequent snow storms around me. I signed my contract today. I will start my work on the 1st of April.

Nägel mit Köpfen

I tried it already once in February, but changed my mind. But now finally I am that tired of writing a blog for everybody, that I quit it. It's more a principle thing I am tired about. Thanks to all (both) responses pushing me to continue my blog a few weeks ago, but it really does not make sense anymore. For the few who liked it, we are in contact anyway (excl. mijn anonieme vriend van Friesland; ik denk dat je anonimiteit moet opgeven, als je verder informeerd zijn wil: facebook, hyves of een biertje indien ik kom naar Friesland - en deeze keer mer conversatie dan alleen "hi" ;-) A bit statistics: this blog has 53 posts in 14 months. Most visitors came from Germany (798), Netherlands (732) and Sweden (210). Keyword that was used most to google my blog: "officina del mare brescia" (I think, earned another free dinner for good publicity, hahaha). Anyway, I had some new ideas for the blog the last days. More back to the roots, because in basic this blog was supp

EILC 2008

In the end I want to publish something that might be of special interest for those who spend the EILC 2006 with me in Härnösand . Midsweden University officially has an EILC 2008 this year!! EILC stands for Erasmus Intensive Language Course. In 2007 Miun skipped it. The old EILC 2006 page is deleted and new site of this year's course is http://www.miun.se/eilc/ . Looks quite similar to our starting page two years ago. Only Björn is now Johanna (check personal staff). And they could have at least published new pictures from Hans and Ella. The new course is going to start in 2 weeks. If I imagine I would have stayed in Sundsvall as first planned, I would welcome the EILC students on their Campus trip... funny. I had no idea when was at their place . But since I only linked my pictures at that time to Hans EILC page, I have to repair my articles from August 2006 now, because all pictures are lost, of course. Luckily I saved at least those from the blog somewhere. But does anyboday h

Almost master

These are my final days as student, for the trip to Sundsvall was a success. When Ulrich (surprise-guest) and I arrived in Sundsvall on Friday evening, it was too warm for snow and the streets were clear. But during the presentation next morning, it started to snow. Since then I have been in a snowy winterland. The weekend was beautiful. I somehow passed the presentation, I just need to make some corrections. Because of holidays it will take until February until I can apply for the master degree - until I receive it, it may take weeks or even months of bureaucracy. Anyhow, it is nothing that needs much effort, but patience. Sundsvall is pretty much the same like last February. They reconstruct the outdoor swimming pool to a kind of adventure pool and the campus at the university gets a new building. I was able to do everything that I wanted to do: A lonely night walk on the tiny paths in the woods while it was snowing and visiting Norra Berget and Alnön again. Sandra and Ulli have th
