Liqueur experiments

Although my holiday is over since a week, I am still in deep holiday mood. Most likely it is just the summer mood, thanks to the beautiful weather we have. Nice warm temperatures without too much heat. That makes it easier to have special weekends. I went home to Mechernich, where I have lived for my last 10 years before having started my studies in Aachen. A neighbor of hours gave a good bye party, I needed two big laundry machines after my holidays, my brother had birthday and the currants were seasoned. Therefore more than enough reasons to get out of the city going back to the country side.
Friday evening I went to the good bye meeting with my parents to the neighbor. I finally met some people again I have not talked to since before my abroad in Sweden. A cosy and nice evening which reminded me a little bit of last Saturday in Friesland. And no matter in which conversation I joined, it was immediately about traveling. That is already an aspect that occurs the whole week. On Friday I have been "imaginary" in Australia due to a conversation. Also a goal I could imagine. The only thing I do not like are the poisening spiders. Small as European spiders are they quite dangerous in Australia. I do not have any problems with spiders. With sharks, crocodiles, jellyfishs and snakes I could get a long. Most likely you know where they are and/or they are big enough to see them in time. At least I can imagine how to avoid them.B ut imagining to sleep in a room where maybe one of those dangerous little spider beasts lives... brrrr. But Australians survive, too, somehow.
Anyway, I think on that evening I advertised Norway and Sweden a lot. During the other days I watched picture books of my big scandinavia travels when I have been a child. Although I can hardly remember the landscape I must have seen everything I wish for: fjords, reindeers, midnight sun, canyons, mountains... I guess, as child you cannot worship it as much as adult, since you do not know how special it is.
When I was not traveling in mind, I found a nice new hobby: making liqueur. My mother already set up strawberries and korn (hard German booze made of wheat) three weeks ago. It still needs 4 weeks to be ready. This weekend the currants had to be collected from the garden, since they were seasoned. And of course, we set up new liqueur. We have to kind of currants in the garden: dark red and bright rosa. The bright sort is sweeter, but it does not give a nice color to the liqueur. But I took some of bright currants with me to Aachen and just set up two bottles with each a different kind of rum. I am looking forward. But I have to be patient. It will be done middle or end of August. If I can wait that long, I can also keep it for the winter and warm myself from the inside. And in August the blackberries are ready to be harvested.
All in all a very funny weekend. My vacuum cleaner got a name, since I started my story "Two days ago I bought a vacuum cleaner - " got interrupted by the questions "What's her name?". End of story: my vacuum cleaner listens to the name "Olga" and is louder than an air plane. I also brought some stuff of my old room and my old appartment to Aachen to pimp the kitchen a bit. The posters I still have from times when I was 16 and I would not hang them in my room again, but they are good enough for a common room in a student flat. I also brought hammer and nails for some pictures, but I need to collect some frames of mine from my brother's flat. And tomorrow I suppose my big Sweden and Norway pictures from last semester should be delivered to a store to be picked up. Would make my room a perfect picture-book of the biggest trips of my last year. Hiking, Norway, Kiruna, Valencia.

Nägel mit Köpfen

I tried it already once in February, but changed my mind. But now finally I am that tired of writing a blog for everybody, that I quit it. It's more a principle thing I am tired about. Thanks to all (both) responses pushing me to continue my blog a few weeks ago, but it really does not make sense anymore. For the few who liked it, we are in contact anyway (excl. mijn anonieme vriend van Friesland; ik denk dat je anonimiteit moet opgeven, als je verder informeerd zijn wil: facebook, hyves of een biertje indien ik kom naar Friesland - en deeze keer mer conversatie dan alleen "hi" ;-) A bit statistics: this blog has 53 posts in 14 months. Most visitors came from Germany (798), Netherlands (732) and Sweden (210). Keyword that was used most to google my blog: "officina del mare brescia" (I think, earned another free dinner for good publicity, hahaha). Anyway, I had some new ideas for the blog the last days. More back to the roots, because in basic this blog was supp

EILC 2008

In the end I want to publish something that might be of special interest for those who spend the EILC 2006 with me in Härnösand . Midsweden University officially has an EILC 2008 this year!! EILC stands for Erasmus Intensive Language Course. In 2007 Miun skipped it. The old EILC 2006 page is deleted and new site of this year's course is http://www.miun.se/eilc/ . Looks quite similar to our starting page two years ago. Only Björn is now Johanna (check personal staff). And they could have at least published new pictures from Hans and Ella. The new course is going to start in 2 weeks. If I imagine I would have stayed in Sundsvall as first planned, I would welcome the EILC students on their Campus trip... funny. I had no idea when was at their place . But since I only linked my pictures at that time to Hans EILC page, I have to repair my articles from August 2006 now, because all pictures are lost, of course. Luckily I saved at least those from the blog somewhere. But does anyboday h

Almost master

These are my final days as student, for the trip to Sundsvall was a success. When Ulrich (surprise-guest) and I arrived in Sundsvall on Friday evening, it was too warm for snow and the streets were clear. But during the presentation next morning, it started to snow. Since then I have been in a snowy winterland. The weekend was beautiful. I somehow passed the presentation, I just need to make some corrections. Because of holidays it will take until February until I can apply for the master degree - until I receive it, it may take weeks or even months of bureaucracy. Anyhow, it is nothing that needs much effort, but patience. Sundsvall is pretty much the same like last February. They reconstruct the outdoor swimming pool to a kind of adventure pool and the campus at the university gets a new building. I was able to do everything that I wanted to do: A lonely night walk on the tiny paths in the woods while it was snowing and visiting Norra Berget and Alnön again. Sandra and Ulli have th
