Or are we dancers

My erasmus winter semester 2007 met in Sundsvall during the last weekend. Although I did not even spend 48 hours in Sundsvall it was toally worth money, time and effort to go there. I arrived on Friday evening, met the Spanish girls at Wayne's coffee, had dinner and then we awesomely partied in O'Learys. On Saturday we had brunch in the city, I visited Jonny and Marzena and joined the others later on for skiing near Sidsjön. Saturday evening we had a preparty at Johan's place and invaded later on the good old Kårhuset where I finally met Sebastian and Solène, too. It is quite funny to see the connections between the different erasmus semesters.
After a good long sleep on Sunday morning we met again in the city for brunch, but only shortly, because the Dutchs and me had to leave at 12. They dropped me off at the trainstation. On the way we figured that I would only have 10 minutes between arrival of the train and closing of the check-in. When I had booked trains and flights one month earlier in Nicaragua I did not really care if I would catch my plane in time or not. I assumed if the weather is that bad that the train is delayed, the plane would likely be delayed, too. So my train was supposed to arrive in Arlanda at 15:09. And right on time at 15:09 the voice announced the next train stop - Uppsala, 15 minutes before Arlanda. In the end my train was almost 30 minutes late in Arlanda. I think, it was fun to watch me. I crossed the terminals running. My escalator was stucked with dozens of people with huge luggage impossible to pass, so I ran down the escalator that was moving against me instead of with me. Hilarious. I reached my check-in totally exhausted, explained that I would not need any luggage, just a seat on the plane. The girl checked me in with the typical relayed Swedish mentality. First the paper for ticket did not fit properly into the printer. So she turned it, tired it again, folded it, tried it again. I could feel the seconds. She looked me up in the computer, found me wanted to book me a seat and then she realized: "Do you want to have seat at the window or in the middle" - "I DONT CARE! - but give me the one next to the window...". So I got my ticket, ran to the scanners, begged all the other passengers to let me pass first, because my plane was going to take off in 10 minutes. I passed the scanners and reached my gate 5 minutes before take-off. When I reached the gate, the other passengers just started to complained "Damn, our flight is 30 minutes delayed". I had to laugh. So in the end, everything went fine and I arrived home on Sunday evening.
The pictures are far not complete, yet. I did not make any, but the others did. Since they are either busily working or still on Sweden holidays it might take a while to get them. Until then, enjoy the party pictures from O'Learys:

Mijn nederlandse week (deel 2)

I skipped work on Friday. I would have been the only one at work and I had already finished every lonely job the week before when my supervisor has been sick. I made some shopping and recovered in bed from Queensday. In the evening I went out with Ulrich. In the third pub we met two friends of him and continued with them our pub tour. I finally get to know the locations. It is quite embarrasing. As Ulrich kept asking me "What have you done all the years, if you do not know these pubs?", I really asked myself how I could have missed the basics. Well, I never has been in Aachen in the weekends and during the week I studied. Two sides. The combination of both started in Sweden. But now I even have an idea what to show people who would come for a visit to Aachen (just call me). While I've been in the Netherlands my bike has been brought to Aachen. Finally. I was planning this since the first week I got to Aachen 4 years ago, but I always wanted to keep the bike at my parents ...

MFG

I think, I had a first day that is usual for a first day in computer business. Of course, I was 20 mintues too late, because the village of the company was surprisingly bigger than one street and I ended up somewhere in nowhere. Luckily Micha could pick me up. What a start. Next getting a card at the entrance. I am not in the system, so I get a one-day entrance card. Maybe tomorrow I am already registered. Afterwards I met a lot of people, learned a lot of names. At Atos you call each other with the first name (not so usual for distance-loving Germany). And now I have an idea why they hired me. I think I met 50 people, but they had only 10 different names. Maybe they hire people because of their names. Almost everybody seems to be called Wolfgang, Peter, Stefan, Michael, and - of course - Markus. Getting to know a lot of people also means to learn about a lot of different projects. And a lot of technical terms I never heard of before. Until 12 my head was full of technical terms and cr...

Tour de Fryslân

These weeks are busy. Work is a mess of new requirements, but since there is a lot to do, there is a lot that can be solved, therefor motivation remains. But Friday evening my head still running on work-level. All the time I was looking for logic challenges, like I have to solve all the time at work. For getting rid of a busy head you can either relax and hope you come to rest... or you seek nice challenges. So I decided spontanuously to go to Dutch Friesland and Roden last weekend. The trip was not as easy as I thought in first place. First the car of my parents seemed to have some serious problems with one of the wheels. Therefore instead of being on my way to a Dutch tea with Stroopwafels I was hanging around in two car workshops. They could not find anything, but after they attached the wheels again, the problem was gone. Well, at least it was cheap. But I was already one hour later than I planned. Because I needed to go to Aken for dropping some stuff and picking some up, my time ...
