First trip for company

I finally got a supervisor from Mittuniversitetet. After three months I at least got a guide, but still did not have a real topic. Atos wants me to be productive in the project, of course. The drawback for me until now was, that being productive meant: straight forward programming. There was not really room for an investigation or anything academical and I cannot just make a protocol about what I work. But since today I think I have a topic. It serves thesis' requirements and Atos' requirements. The next step will be, to get enough time for the thesis work, since I could easily work all day long on the project without doing anything for thesis.
Then I got to know a big surprise today. Next week on Thursday, I will travel to Paris for Atos. Of course not alone, but it is my first trip for Atos. Besides that it will be my first journey to France, but I do not expect to see anything more then metro and office. I will have to be before 6am at Atos in the morning and I will travel back from Paris in the late afternoon. But instead of going back to Aken I will travel directly into holidays. I will finally arrive Saturday evening in Sundsvall. Vad kul!
But I will have to work a lot to be prepared for Paris. Additionally I have to buy something neat for the conference. Most likely I will rather look like a clown. During this weekend I will most likely go back to Mechernich again to catch some stuff of my old flat. Since my flatmates move out, I am surprised from time to time what is already packed. Today I had to eat spaghetti with tea spoons. Takes a little bit longer than with a fork and it should better be done in a bathroom, since it is easier to clean.
Yesterday I watched the awesome soccer match Netherlands - Italy via video stream. My stream had a delay of 1 minute which I found out during the first goal. My neighbours were celebtrating one minute before the goal. After that I had a relaxed soccer-evening, because as long as I did not hear my neighbours getting angry, I could be sure, Italy would be harmless in front of the Dutch goal, no matter how dangerous it might look at the moment on my screen.
For the next post I will try to get some pictures, although I do not know yet, what I could make pictures of here. I will figure something out.

Mijn nederlandse week (deel 2)

I skipped work on Friday. I would have been the only one at work and I had already finished every lonely job the week before when my supervisor has been sick. I made some shopping and recovered in bed from Queensday. In the evening I went out with Ulrich. In the third pub we met two friends of him and continued with them our pub tour. I finally get to know the locations. It is quite embarrasing. As Ulrich kept asking me "What have you done all the years, if you do not know these pubs?", I really asked myself how I could have missed the basics. Well, I never has been in Aachen in the weekends and during the week I studied. Two sides. The combination of both started in Sweden. But now I even have an idea what to show people who would come for a visit to Aachen (just call me). While I've been in the Netherlands my bike has been brought to Aachen. Finally. I was planning this since the first week I got to Aachen 4 years ago, but I always wanted to keep the bike at my parents ...

I'm not an addict - am I?

My first month as full time employee is over and things are going pretty well. Work is currently quite easy going. I have time to improve things. Most likely it will be worthless when the think-tanks behind the projects create new requirements, but that's ok, because I now get salary. The freshly graduated students I know all go the same prestige-track: first they buy a new computer. I did it, too, for my old one was barely working since I drowned it once during a legen-dary story (Hälsningar till Mainz, lil åpa). Considering the law of freshly graduated students a flat television in a minimum size of 60" will follow, right after a new by-far-too-expensive car and right before the super-duper dolby soround audio system with playstation 3 which gets lost in the living hall of my new huge single-appartment. I - dont - think - so. Instead I asked for holidays and I hope to get a response, soon. If everything goes well, I will escape the summer for two weeks in July. As I said, wo...

MFG

I think, I had a first day that is usual for a first day in computer business. Of course, I was 20 mintues too late, because the village of the company was surprisingly bigger than one street and I ended up somewhere in nowhere. Luckily Micha could pick me up. What a start. Next getting a card at the entrance. I am not in the system, so I get a one-day entrance card. Maybe tomorrow I am already registered. Afterwards I met a lot of people, learned a lot of names. At Atos you call each other with the first name (not so usual for distance-loving Germany). And now I have an idea why they hired me. I think I met 50 people, but they had only 10 different names. Maybe they hire people because of their names. Almost everybody seems to be called Wolfgang, Peter, Stefan, Michael, and - of course - Markus. Getting to know a lot of people also means to learn about a lot of different projects. And a lot of technical terms I never heard of before. Until 12 my head was full of technical terms and cr...
