Varifrån kommer jag?

A week has passed without a feeling of time. So far the similarity between Tyskland and Sverige. The difference is that I cannot really recall what's worth to mention. My days start usually either at 6am or 7am, always depending if I have to work as translator in the morning. Depending on when I am of in the morning I have to hurry for the bus or I have to wait half an hour. This week I had to run twice. At half past 5pm I take the bus back and I am at home at 6pm. Usually I do some grocery shopping before coming home.
But at least I've been out twice. Monday my flatmates brought me to a hardrock pub. Due to Monday it was rather empty, but still more people than in Sundsvall at this time. I guess at the weekends it must be similar to Medusa club in Stockholm where we have been last October. For sure not the last time I've been there. On Friday we have been out to a club. I did not really get the system of prices for alcohol. Cocktails were quite cheap/normal, beer rather expensive, for both cost 3 Euros. For beer that's almost Swedish, only the beer is still tasty. However, the two dancefloors were both not made for me. One was playing crap, but sometimes as good as Kåren (you get what I mean), and the second was supposed to play reggae, but the DJ somehow yelled some are-you-cool-phrases in his microphone every minute. After two hours I decided that it would not be worth to fight the music with more beer and walked home. I took a longer way for maybe finding a better club, but I did not succeed. Therefore I enjoyed my first döner since Leipzig last summer. It feels mandatory when you are out at night in Germany.
Saturday the weather was kidding with me. Sunshine I want to go out. Once I am out it becomes cloudy. Half and hour later it starts raining. Due to Saturday the city is crowded and I do not speculate about a nice seat for a hot chocolate at Starbucks and go home. The minute I arrive home the clouds disappear and we have blue sky again. I was hungry anyway...
My exercises at work are toys. I have to play around with some stuff, testing it if we can use it in the project. Maybe I will have to make some travelling in summer for the project. Either Madrid, Athens, Brussels or Paris. Most likely Paris or Brussels, for it is nearer to Aken and our company has some influence in determining the place for meetings. But I hope for Madrid.

Mijn nederlandse week (deel 2)

I skipped work on Friday. I would have been the only one at work and I had already finished every lonely job the week before when my supervisor has been sick. I made some shopping and recovered in bed from Queensday. In the evening I went out with Ulrich. In the third pub we met two friends of him and continued with them our pub tour. I finally get to know the locations. It is quite embarrasing. As Ulrich kept asking me "What have you done all the years, if you do not know these pubs?", I really asked myself how I could have missed the basics. Well, I never has been in Aachen in the weekends and during the week I studied. Two sides. The combination of both started in Sweden. But now I even have an idea what to show people who would come for a visit to Aachen (just call me). While I've been in the Netherlands my bike has been brought to Aachen. Finally. I was planning this since the first week I got to Aachen 4 years ago, but I always wanted to keep the bike at my parents ...

MFG

I think, I had a first day that is usual for a first day in computer business. Of course, I was 20 mintues too late, because the village of the company was surprisingly bigger than one street and I ended up somewhere in nowhere. Luckily Micha could pick me up. What a start. Next getting a card at the entrance. I am not in the system, so I get a one-day entrance card. Maybe tomorrow I am already registered. Afterwards I met a lot of people, learned a lot of names. At Atos you call each other with the first name (not so usual for distance-loving Germany). And now I have an idea why they hired me. I think I met 50 people, but they had only 10 different names. Maybe they hire people because of their names. Almost everybody seems to be called Wolfgang, Peter, Stefan, Michael, and - of course - Markus. Getting to know a lot of people also means to learn about a lot of different projects. And a lot of technical terms I never heard of before. Until 12 my head was full of technical terms and cr...

High Fens

During my morning translation shift I got mail from INCAS about a hiking trip through the High Fens in Belgium. The High Fens are unique marshlands at the border between Germany and Belgium. The hiking trip was announced to be 25 km, guided by ranger through a restricted area and with the requirement for a second pair of shoes, because the first one will be uncomfortable after having crossed marshland and a river. That sounded exact like a trip I would like, so I studied Monday morning at home in order to be on time at the registration board. INCAS is something you can compare with the International Committee in Sundsvall. They organize trips. They have their office in the same building as the Internation Office, and they are sponsored by the international office of the RWTH Aachen ad well as Fachochschule Aachen. But in contrast to International Committee in Sundsvall INCAS offers are for all students. Not limited to Erasmus students, Free Movers or national students, but they are f...
