Liqueur experiments

Although my holiday is over since a week, I am still in deep holiday mood. Most likely it is just the summer mood, thanks to the beautiful weather we have. Nice warm temperatures without too much heat. That makes it easier to have special weekends. I went home to Mechernich, where I have lived for my last 10 years before having started my studies in Aachen. A neighbor of hours gave a good bye party, I needed two big laundry machines after my holidays, my brother had birthday and the currants were seasoned. Therefore more than enough reasons to get out of the city going back to the country side.
Friday evening I went to the good bye meeting with my parents to the neighbor. I finally met some people again I have not talked to since before my abroad in Sweden. A cosy and nice evening which reminded me a little bit of last Saturday in Friesland. And no matter in which conversation I joined, it was immediately about traveling. That is already an aspect that occurs the whole week. On Friday I have been "imaginary" in Australia due to a conversation. Also a goal I could imagine. The only thing I do not like are the poisening spiders. Small as European spiders are they quite dangerous in Australia. I do not have any problems with spiders. With sharks, crocodiles, jellyfishs and snakes I could get a long. Most likely you know where they are and/or they are big enough to see them in time. At least I can imagine how to avoid them.B ut imagining to sleep in a room where maybe one of those dangerous little spider beasts lives... brrrr. But Australians survive, too, somehow.
Anyway, I think on that evening I advertised Norway and Sweden a lot. During the other days I watched picture books of my big scandinavia travels when I have been a child. Although I can hardly remember the landscape I must have seen everything I wish for: fjords, reindeers, midnight sun, canyons, mountains... I guess, as child you cannot worship it as much as adult, since you do not know how special it is.
When I was not traveling in mind, I found a nice new hobby: making liqueur. My mother already set up strawberries and korn (hard German booze made of wheat) three weeks ago. It still needs 4 weeks to be ready. This weekend the currants had to be collected from the garden, since they were seasoned. And of course, we set up new liqueur. We have to kind of currants in the garden: dark red and bright rosa. The bright sort is sweeter, but it does not give a nice color to the liqueur. But I took some of bright currants with me to Aachen and just set up two bottles with each a different kind of rum. I am looking forward. But I have to be patient. It will be done middle or end of August. If I can wait that long, I can also keep it for the winter and warm myself from the inside. And in August the blackberries are ready to be harvested.
All in all a very funny weekend. My vacuum cleaner got a name, since I started my story "Two days ago I bought a vacuum cleaner - " got interrupted by the questions "What's her name?". End of story: my vacuum cleaner listens to the name "Olga" and is louder than an air plane. I also brought some stuff of my old room and my old appartment to Aachen to pimp the kitchen a bit. The posters I still have from times when I was 16 and I would not hang them in my room again, but they are good enough for a common room in a student flat. I also brought hammer and nails for some pictures, but I need to collect some frames of mine from my brother's flat. And tomorrow I suppose my big Sweden and Norway pictures from last semester should be delivered to a store to be picked up. Would make my room a perfect picture-book of the biggest trips of my last year. Hiking, Norway, Kiruna, Valencia.

Mijn nederlandse week (deel 2)

I skipped work on Friday. I would have been the only one at work and I had already finished every lonely job the week before when my supervisor has been sick. I made some shopping and recovered in bed from Queensday. In the evening I went out with Ulrich. In the third pub we met two friends of him and continued with them our pub tour. I finally get to know the locations. It is quite embarrasing. As Ulrich kept asking me "What have you done all the years, if you do not know these pubs?", I really asked myself how I could have missed the basics. Well, I never has been in Aachen in the weekends and during the week I studied. Two sides. The combination of both started in Sweden. But now I even have an idea what to show people who would come for a visit to Aachen (just call me). While I've been in the Netherlands my bike has been brought to Aachen. Finally. I was planning this since the first week I got to Aachen 4 years ago, but I always wanted to keep the bike at my parents ...

MFG

I think, I had a first day that is usual for a first day in computer business. Of course, I was 20 mintues too late, because the village of the company was surprisingly bigger than one street and I ended up somewhere in nowhere. Luckily Micha could pick me up. What a start. Next getting a card at the entrance. I am not in the system, so I get a one-day entrance card. Maybe tomorrow I am already registered. Afterwards I met a lot of people, learned a lot of names. At Atos you call each other with the first name (not so usual for distance-loving Germany). And now I have an idea why they hired me. I think I met 50 people, but they had only 10 different names. Maybe they hire people because of their names. Almost everybody seems to be called Wolfgang, Peter, Stefan, Michael, and - of course - Markus. Getting to know a lot of people also means to learn about a lot of different projects. And a lot of technical terms I never heard of before. Until 12 my head was full of technical terms and cr...

Tour de Fryslân

These weeks are busy. Work is a mess of new requirements, but since there is a lot to do, there is a lot that can be solved, therefor motivation remains. But Friday evening my head still running on work-level. All the time I was looking for logic challenges, like I have to solve all the time at work. For getting rid of a busy head you can either relax and hope you come to rest... or you seek nice challenges. So I decided spontanuously to go to Dutch Friesland and Roden last weekend. The trip was not as easy as I thought in first place. First the car of my parents seemed to have some serious problems with one of the wheels. Therefore instead of being on my way to a Dutch tea with Stroopwafels I was hanging around in two car workshops. They could not find anything, but after they attached the wheels again, the problem was gone. Well, at least it was cheap. But I was already one hour later than I planned. Because I needed to go to Aken for dropping some stuff and picking some up, my time ...
